Hey don't know how many of the forumites are Deadliest Catch fans (my wife and I can't get enough!) but on the After The Catch show where the captains are sitting in a bar and talking about being on the Bering Sea and this year they are in Colorado but the house band that opens the show is Leftover Salmon and while they only get about 10 minutes on the show it is pretty cool to see them playing. Check out tonight's show at 10, I am pretty sure Mike Rowe said they would be the band all season.

Don't know how many Chris Robinson Brotherhood fans are out there but I am catching them tonight out in Pittsfield but I am a huge Black Crowes fan and I really like this band Chris has put together and have become a huge fan of this band. Neal Casal just adds a certain quality to this band that makes it tick and the band really plays well together if you like them! I will report back at some point tomorrow about the show

Hey, DH53, is that the show where they are looking for King Crab? IE, the prey per se aren't deadly, but the habitat is? Or do I have it wrong? I am just curious cause it seemed from seeing ads and all, it's been "on" for some time, and yet, that's all I see (ie, crabs). So, why are they in CO? (I have a steel trap for a mind, eh? Hardly anything gets by me...).

Or, are they after Monte now? Perhaps Craven for implying it's okay to rape a garden, but not rob the chickens of the sea?

;)

Hey Tell, that is the show about catching the crabs but because of the shows popularity they have added a show called "after the catch" which goes on after you see then out on the Bering sea. In this show the captains are taken to a place (they have filmed in Hawaii, Louisiana and other locations) The captains sit around a table and mike Rowe asks them questions about what happened on this or that and shows footage from the series. It is just another way to see the Captains in a different light, one not so stressful as being on the sea. It goes on after DC at 10 and they always have a house band and this season on AFC leftover salmon is the band. At least I hope they still are, they said last week that LS will be on the show every week! I hope this clears it up!

But they may also be after Monte! Hahahahahaha

Yep, and my own band was after me too. Sometimes stress built up with the bandmembers when we were out on the road playing gigs. Often they used me as their punching bag, even though I was their soundman.

One day the whole band nailed me real good -- twice! About noon, they barged into my motel room. The whole band dragged me out of bed and carried me outside. The girl that was sleeping with me rolled over and covered up. Then my band hauled me off and threw me into the swimming pool. Later that evening - on stage, they nailed me again, in the middle of the show.
the whole band stops abrupty and sings in a chorus - "Monte is a dummy!" - during track 14, Beaumont Rag

Did you 'catch the crabs' from the girl that was sleeping with you?
Sorry, just trying to tie this whole thread up in a nice little wiener package.

Good to see you're still alive Mr. Cowboy :)
That Highland fire is crazy. Its makes me sad to know all
that beautiful land that is burned, let alone all the peoples woes. *sigh*

It's insanely hot here. We're hitting over 100°F again - at least five days in a row. Never seen it this bad before. Weather forecast here is for temps to go down into the upper-90s°F for two or three days, then back into the 100s°F again. As of yesterday, Colorado had 10 wildfires burning.

Manitou Springs was evacuated this past weekend due to the Waldo Canyon fire, which is still burning there. I used to live there.

Estes Park had the Woodland Heights flash-fire deal this past weekend, burned down 21 homes there. I used to live there.

Fort Collins has the High Park fire burning nearby for two weeks plus. Now I'm living downtown here. 87,250 acres scorched, 257 homes burned down, and thousands of "million dollar views" were destroyed.

Most amazing to me: not one politician, not one firefighter, not one journalist or reporter, not one fire victim or evacuee, not one insurance broker, not one scientist or CSU professor, not one aircraft retardant bomber, not one cop, not one weather reporter or meteorologist, not one blogger, not one person anywhere -- besides me -- has questioned the possible connections between these fire conditions, and the global warming and climate change trending on our Planet Earth.

Yes sir: Unprecedented to say the least.
I am somewhat familiar with the locals that you point out.
10 fires burning some of the most beautiful land in the U.S.
(or world). It is so sad :(

I wouldn't be amazed about the 'connection' though bud.
Global warming perhaps, but these things are cyclical.
Fires replenish and help the land eventually. But DAMN.
All I am saying is you Colorado folk are definitely getting a larger than bum deal.

keep smokin' (and I mean that in the nicest way Monte)

Got it; I was thinking that these "kinds" of shows might be going after different prey each week (season?); one of my kids likes to watch the "monsters of the rivers" show, and that one seems to have some deadly angle to it as well, but it seems to be catch and release only? Anyway, the guy is always finding these giant fish, etc., that might bite you in half, but not sure if that's the pt or not...danger or dinner?

Another snappy retort from the comish. How the cilia in my eardrums quiver with anticipation for your witty responses. I hope you realize I'm 'taking the piss' out of you. Nothing but jokes and respect.

I need to learn what your counterpart has known already. That is: never to pass up a good opportunity to STFU.

I should take full advantage of that, I know. Like the cops say, 'I have the right to remain silent'.

But I cant. I usually waive that right.

Likewise, drivel away anytime my good man...

Now if you will excuse me, I believe I left a cake out in the rain that I must go get :)

You're too kind; ya know, what a nice little thread...seriously; seems not all that LONG ago we were all "worried" about where the Forum was headed (we can NEVER tell), and now, look at this: a mild mannered, polite little set of exchanges today...a bunch of old fart friends with rec's on dining, on bands of a nonDEAD nature, on this and on that...

Pretty darn cool, eh?

Dont watch much TV sry, but I do know what the DC is.
Its an OK show if you're into robbing the sea for $ and
willing to die for it...

Leftover Salmon is a great band though, true.

but my post is for the Chris Robinson Brotherhood:
Im not a 'fan' per say, but they fuckin ROCK.
Saw them at Hookaville last year and was blown away. I
have always liked the Black Crows and loved Chris and Co.
with Jimmy Page (a while ago).

So my point is that you are gonna LOVE LOVE LOVE the show tonight.

Have a great time dh53!! keep us posted

Jambase did a Celebrating 20 Years live compilation in 2009 that makes a really nice introduction to the band. The links still appear to work:

They are on LMA

Here are a few to get started with:

My personal favorite: http://archive.org/details/los2000-08-21.sbd.flac16

http://archive.org/details/LOS2002-08-31.Salmonfest.sbd
http://archive.org/details/los1995-04-04.flac16
http://archive.org/details/los1997-09-20
http://archive.org/details/los2002-11-02.sbd.flac16

Anything with Whispering Waters, Breaking Through, Vallley of the Full Moon or Gold Hill Line is good - recording quality varies a lot. Some are pretty muddy AUDS, but do a good job of capturing the vibe.

I particulary like this one:

The acoutic set opener is fantastic (dedicated to Jerr) with some ole faves.

(Rest of the show doesn't suck much either)

EDIT:
DAMN!!! Cant stream it. If you can find it, its worth it.

Close to???? About 200 yards away as I type this....

There are loads of places around here worth a few extra minutes drive depending on where you are coming from.

Margie and Rays (off of Sandbridge Road) - greasy spoon, fried seafood, a couple of grilled options, but good. The real draw - they have the absolute best she crab soup in the area. Bar none, hands down - the best. Pay no attention to the deer heads mounted on the wall with Christmas lights and NASCAR hats.

Jewish Mother Hilltop - great sandwiches, great omelettes, great desserts. They have an almond cake where each slice is the size of your head. Cut to the chase and glue a strip of lard to your waist.......

Mizuno's Japanese Restaurant - very good sushi.

219 - Located in Norfolk at 219 Granby Street. Pricey, don't know how old the kids are, but if it's just you and the Mrs., they have the best crabcakes in the galaxy. We don't even get a menu anymore, we just order the panko crusted oyster appetizer and the crabcake dinner.

Blue Pete's - Dennis (Cliff Hucker) and I had dinner out here. They have exceptionally good blackened tuna, but their specials are worth trying out. The crowd takes a decidedly redneck turn after about 9:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, but the food is worth it. Besides, it's on North Muddy Creek Road so what do you expect?

Watermans - near the boardwalk around 5th Street, use the valet parking service. You may have to wait, I'd make reservations. Pretty good variety of seafood dishes. This is a tourist favorite, but if you promise not to tell anyone, I'll let you in on a secret....it's a locals' favorite too. Can get pricey. They have a pretty good dark rum drink called the 'Dark and Stormy'. If you have one, make plans ahead for Mrs. DH53 to drive.

Frankie's Place For Ribs - there are two - one at the Oceanfront and one in the Fairfield Shopping Center off of Kempsville Road. Haven't been to the one at the Oceanfront - the one off Kempsville is where we go. Great ribs, the onion loaf is worth the trip.

Jimmy's Steak and Seafood House - Providence Square Shopping Center off Providence Road, close to Frankies. Small hole in the wall place, almost looks out of place in a shopping center but the food is superb. The steak and scallops and crabmeat stuffed flounder are signature dishes, homemade soups - another locals' favorite.

Beach Pig BBQ - pulled pork BBQ, 23rd Street at the Oceanfront.

Not to pry, but when are you going to be in town? We could try to swing a lunch if you can make it. If it's family time and there's no room for running off, that's okay too. Depending on when you are here there are a couple of decent shows coming up. Shoot me an email off forum and we can discuss more.
